From the moment I first noticed that black standard poodle until this day, my soul has been consumed with poodles. They will always be my first love. I love everything about them. Their intelligence, humor and yes the endless grooming. There is nothing more soothing to the soul then spending a couple of hours brushing. It is the best form of meditation I've ever found. I can find my inner peace and brush out my dog all at the same time. Show grooming is a skill that requires many years to obtain. I have been fortunate enough to have found a group of wonderful poodle friends that took me under their wings and have mentored me. I have worked hard and have obtained some skill. I am still learning. I must say however that I can make the most perfect bracelet on a poodle.
It takes about 2 hours to get a poodle ready for the ring. Although some may find the clips for the poodle strange they at one time served a purpose. Now days it just makes the poodle look wonderful. There are 3 basic clips that are acceptable for showing in the USA. A puppy (under 12 mos old) is allowed to wear the puppy clip, after 1 year old they must be put into either the Continental or the English Saddle Clip. There is also what is known as the Historically Correct Continental, and they may also wear cords. I doubt anyone can argue that a poodle done up for the ring is anything less then magnificent.
