© 2007 - the Charming Ones All rights reserved. Raw Feeding Raw feeding aka BARF Diet, Raw meaty bones, etc etc etc. Simply put feeding your dogs what they were designed to eat. I've been feeding raw for about 8 years now. I have even weaned a litter of Chinese Cresteds on raw. I basically feed nothing else in my house. Except for when I go to a dog show that is several days long and we stay in a hotel without refrigeration. Then I bring along some canned meat. I have found that my dogs are so much healthier. We rarely visit the vet there just isn't a need except for shots, accidents etc. We do not have skin problems, diarrhea (ok so we do now and then but I give them pumpkin and that clears it up within a day), none of the normal problems that seem to plague dogs these days. When I started feeding raw I had a recipe that had been given to me that I followed religiously. I also gave a ton of vitamins. But over the years I have relaxed and I feed them what I have. If I have to give them store bought hamburger for a day cause I have run of chicken it is not going to kill them. I have also cut back on my vitamins. I give only kelp and flax now. Sometimes some fish oil if I have it. I used to feed primarily chicken backs but with the Cresteds it is hard to cut up those backs in small enough pieces so I have switched to wings. I have a nice sharp pair of utility cutters (something my husband found at Home Depot) that cuts right through them at the joints. This makes it much easier and less slimy for me to feed. And wings have great bone to meat ratio for growing puppies nice and slow. I also feed them some red meat with organ meat and veggies and fruits, raw eggs (shell and all), plain yogurt. I do not feed grains at all. I have found that my guys have problems with it. Some raw feeders will fed whole grains I just prefer not to. I am always happy to assist and advise new comers to feeding raw. Although I am a firm believer in feeding raw and would never go back to feeding commerical dog food I also believe in allowing people to make their own choice even if it is not what I would do. So feel free to ask my advice on feeding raw but don't expect to me to shove it down your throat. I have found an excellent site for raw feeding and information on commerical foods and what really goes into them. Rather then re writing that information here and wasting a lot of time I am linking it instead. I have gotten permission from the site owners to link to it. So please go there and read about raw and commerical dog food and then make up your own mind . |
